Curved edge

A curved edge gives the left or right front corner of a cabinet a radius; the curved side is cut as one piece and bent with kerfs cut into its inner face. In moducut the setting is in the Curved Edge section on the Carcass tab of Module Options.

Short answer

Open the module in design mode, go to Options › Carcass and, in the Curved Edge section, turn on “Left front corner curved” or “Right front corner curved”. Type the Radius and the Straight part; if you choose a kerf cutter, the kerf layout is calculated on its own.

Making the corner curved

  1. Double-click the module to enter design mode and open Options from the rail on the left.
  2. Go to the Carcass tab and find the Curved Edge section.
  3. Turn on the “Left front corner curved” or “Right front corner curved” switch; both can be on together.
  4. Enter the Radius and the Straight part and choose the kerf cutter.

The same section is also in the carcass’s Part Properties in the room.

Settings

  • Radius. The outer radius of the curve; at least 20 mm, R100 to start with. The curve is a quarter circle.
  • Straight part. The straight section that continues on the front plane where the curve ends; at least 40 mm.
  • Kerf cutter. A cutter from your tool library, or Manual (straight cutter, spacing and width). When a cutter is chosen, the number and spacing of kerfs are calculated from it, with a spacing of at most 10 mm; the number of kerfs to be cut is shown below.
  • Kerf spacing and Kerf width. Only when Manual is chosen; the center-to-center spacing and the width of the kerfs.
  • Remaining thickness. The thickness left at the bottom of the kerf; the kerf depth is the board thickness minus the remaining thickness.

In cutting and CNC

The curved side goes into the cut list as a single part as long as the curve. In the curved zone, kerf grooves are cut into its inner face; the board pattern continues along the arc. Panels and the worktop are cut radiused at the same corner. If you chose a V-tipped kerf cutter, a warning about the required V-carving cutter appears in Nesting Results.

Connectors and fronts

  • Connectors are placed outside the curve, on the straight part, and use the carcass’s connector.
  • Connectors on the curved side are kept away from the gola profile, shelf pins, runners and hinges.
  • A J or C gola profile stays between the inner uprights.
  • Doors and flaps start with a gap after the end of the straight part; side-by-side doors are split evenly. Front gaps come from General Settings › Door.
Tip: For your first curved cabinet, cut and bend one side first; tune the remaining thickness and cutter choice for your board by looking at it.

Frequently asked questions

No. Curves are only made on the cabinet’s left and right front corners.

From the tool list in CNC Settings. If the cutter is not listed, first add it to the machine’s tools.
