Adding drawers

A drawer is a box fitted into a compartment of the cabinet carcass on runners, with its box and front made of separate parts. In moducut, drawers are added with the Drawer tool in design mode; box parts, runner and dowel counts are calculated on their own.

Short answer

In design mode, choose Drawer on the rail, select the compartment in the 3D view and enter the count and type. When you type compartment heights, that compartment is locked. Choose the drawer runner in the Runner section and press Apply.

Adding a drawer

  1. Open the module in design mode and choose Drawer on the rail.
  2. Select the compartment the drawers go into in the 3D view. If you do not select a space, the whole carcass becomes drawers.
  3. Type the number of drawers in the Count field.
  4. On the Type row, choose Overlay or Inset.
  5. If you like, type drawer heights one by one; the compartment you type is locked and the remaining height is shared among the other drawers.
  6. Choose the runner in the Runner section and press Apply.

If you start with the two-, three- or four-drawer base cabinets in the library, the drawers come ready; you only change the runners and heights.

Overlay and inset drawers

The front of an overlay drawer sits over the front of the carcass; for this type you can set the drawer back from the front with Pull inward. An inset drawer stays behind a door or inside the carcass, and these settings appear:

  • Flap position. Enter in mm how far back the drawer front sits from the sides; the Forward and Back buttons move it by 1 mm each, and Flush with Sides aligns the front with the sides.
  • With uprights. In a cabinet with doors, builds the drawers inside together with uprights added on both sides of the compartment.

The Reference the inner vertical divider switch is available for both types and aligns the drawer to the upright in the compartment.

Choosing runners

The selector in the Runner section shows runner types with small diagrams. The list includes Samet Smart, Samet Telescopic, Samet Partial Extension, Samet Classic, Minnes, Generic, Häfele, Hettich and Blum runners, as well as the Blum Metabox, Merivobox, Legrabox, Movento and Tandem systems. The runner you choose is applied to all drawers in the carcass right away. If you do not choose a runner, Standard Telescopic is used.

When you right-click a drawer in design mode, the runner name and runner length appear at the top of the menu. Runner counts are totaled on the Drawer runner (set) row of the hardware list.

Drawer front and box material

The Drawer tool panel has two material sections: Drawer Box Material and Drawer Front Material. Drawer fronts are cut from the same board as the doors; the choice is applied right away. Drawer front gaps come from the Drawer Front Gap Settings on the General Settings › Door page.

Tip: To change the runner on all drawers in the project in one go, use the Drawer Runner tab of Room Design › Bulk.
