The drawer box is the box behind the drawer front made of side, front, back and base parts; its size is calculated from the runner type, gap settings and base connection. This page explains how to set the box and runner in design mode.

Short answer

In design mode, right-click the drawer and choose Change Drawer Box Properties. In the Drawer Customization window, set the runner, base connection, box size and connector fitting, then press OK.

Drawer right-click menu

When you right-click a drawer in design mode, the runner type and runner length appear at the top of the menu. The menu has these commands:

  • Change Drawer Box Properties. Opens the Drawer Customization window.
  • Flap Position. On inset drawers, moves the front 1 or 5 mm forward or back; the Flush with Sides and Set by Measurement options are here too.
  • Inner Drawer. Adds a second box inside the drawer, with a box height and front setback you choose; remove it with Remove Inner Drawer.
  • Add U Cut-out (Siphon Space). Makes a U cut-out in the box for the siphon in under-sink drawers.
  • Edit Drawer Group. Opens the Drawer tool again.
  • Equalize Drawer Flaps. Equalizes the sizes of the drawer fronts.

Drawer Customization

  1. Right-click the drawer and choose Change Drawer Box Properties.
  2. On the Runner row, choose Standard Telescopic or a runner brand.
  3. On the Base Connection row, choose Grooved, Nailed from below or Side-wall (metal); if needed, turn on No carcass front part.
  4. On the Connector Fitting row, choose the fastener for the box corners.
  5. On the PVC row, choose the banding mode for the box parts.
  6. Press OK. Restore Default removes this carcass’s drawer customizations.

The settings are applied to all drawers in the carcass.

Box size

In the Box Size section, the box height is set By flap or Manually, and the depth By runner or Manually. When you choose Manual, you type values into the Box Height and Box Depth fields; Vertical Position moves the box down or up relative to the flap while the flap stays in place. For inset drawers, the Inner Drawer Flap section shows the flap setback for each compartment on a separate row.

Default drawer settings

The Settings › General Settings › Drawer page sets the rules for new drawers:

  • Drawer Box Front Structure. With front flap (with a box front part) or Without front flap (sides connected directly to the front).
  • Gap and Safety Settings. Top safety allowance, bottom gap, front mounting hole and marking, base thickness, groove depth and distance, and top shortening of the front and back panels.
  • Base Tolerances. Size and groove width tolerances for grooved, snap-off and nailed bases.
  • Side rail PVC. The front, back, top and bottom edge banding of the side rails on a wooden drawer box.

Runner clearance sizes are kept on the Drawer Runner card in Settings › General Settings, and the box size is calculated from them.

Tip: To change the base of all drawers in the project, enter the base type, thickness, groove depth and groove distance together on the Drawer Base tab of Bulk Edit.

Frequently asked questions

A second, lower box fitted inside a drawer. You add it by right-clicking the drawer and choosing the box height and front setback from the Inner Drawer menu; the inner box opens and closes separately from the main drawer.

Yes. In Drawer Customization, choose Side-wall (metal) on the Base Connection row and choose the system you use on the Runner row, for example Blum Legrabox or Blum Metabox.

The length of the selected runner comes from the runner record and appears at the top of the menu when you right-click the drawer. If no runner is chosen, moducut uses the standard telescopic runner length for the carcass depth.
