How do I run nesting?

Production and CNC · Last updated:

Short answer

Press Production › “Nesting” on the ribbon (Alt + W), check the parts, sheet size and margins in Nesting Settings and press “Run Nesting”. In Nesting Results you see each sheet’s layout and waste rate.

Step by step

  1. Open Nesting Settings with Production › “Nesting”.
  2. In the Part List, check the parts going onto sheets (INCLUDED), the grain direction and the PVC edges.
  3. Check the sheet sizes in the “Board Size by Material” table; you can also add the offcut sheets you have on hand here.
  4. In General Settings, choose the kerf, the edge margin and the layout method: Layout for CNC Cutting or Guillotine.
  5. Press “Run Nesting”; Nesting Results opens.
To lay out only one module’s parts, right-click the module and choose “Send to Nesting”. In Nesting Results, “Add to offcut boards” keeps usable offcuts for later jobs.
