How do I generate a G-code file?
Production and CNC · Last updated:
Short answer
Run nesting first; in Nesting Results press “Save All G-Code” or “Send This Board to Production”. In the Create CNC Production File window that opens, choose your machine and press “Export G-Code”.
Step by step
- Check your machine and tools in Settings menu › “CNC Settings”: Machine and Post, Tool Settings, Cutting Settings.
- Lay out the parts with Production › “Nesting”.
- In Nesting Results, press “Save All G-Code” for all sheets, or “Send This Board to Production” for the open sheet only.
- In the Create CNC Production File window, choose the machine; tick the operation types (groove, hole, contour) and the tools to use.
- If you like, watch the cut with “Simulation”, then press “Export G-Code”. If the project has not been saved, you are asked to enter the project details and save it first.
If you changed a connector or hardware setting after nesting, the program warns “Outdated Holes”; export with current holes using “Redo nesting”. Running the first job dry on the machine to check it is a good habit.
