These counts follow a common industry rule of thumb; for the exact number, check the hinge manufacturer’s chart for door height and weight. moducut picks the hinge count and type for every module itself.
See the hardware listHow do you calculate the number of hinges?
- The number of hinges per door is chosen by the door height (see the table below). This is a common industry rule of thumb.
- If the door is heavy (glass, mirror, solid wood) or wider than 600 mm, one hinge is added.
- Total hinges = Σ (hinges per door × number of doors).
- The first and last hinges sit the end distance in from the door edge, and the ones in between are evenly spaced: position = end distance + index × (height − 2 × end distance) ÷ (number of hinges − 1). The index starts at 0.
- For the exact number, the hinge manufacturer’s chart for door height and weight applies.

Worked example
Six 720 mm base cabinet doors and two 2,100 mm tall cabinet doors: 2 hinges for 720 mm, 5 for 2,100 mm. Total 6 × 2 + 2 × 5 = 22 hinges. With a 100 mm end distance, the hinges on the 2,100 mm door sit at 100, 575, 1,050, 1,525 and 2,000 mm from the top edge.

questions
By the common rule: 2 up to 900 mm, 3 for 901–1,600 mm, 4 for 1,601–2,000 mm and 5 for 2,001–2,400 mm. Add one hinge for a heavy or wide door. For the exact number, check the hinge manufacturer’s chart.
The hinge center is usually kept about 100 mm in from the top and bottom edges of the door; the tool also defaults to 100 mm. If a hinge lands on a shelf or a divider, shift it slightly.
A heavy door puts more load on the hinges; over time the door sags and goes out of adjustment. Using one extra hinge on a glass, mirror or solid wood door spreads the load. Manufacturer charts give the count by height and weight together.
