Cut list: Excel or moducut?

The differences between a spreadsheet kept by hand and a list that comes out of the drawing, point by point.

Short answer

In Excel a cut list is prepared by hand for every kitchen; one kitchen takes between half an hour and two hours, and the list is updated from scratch when a size changes. In moducut the list comes out of the drawing on its own; banded edges are on each row, and grooves and notches are carried from the same project into the sheet layout and the machine file.

Preparing the listBy hand in Excel:30 min – 2 hours per kitchenmoducut:Ready when the drawing is done
When a size changesBy hand in Excel:The list is updated from scratchmoducut:The list updates itself; the layout is re-run with one click

Error riskBy hand in Excel:Copying and summing mistakesmoducut:Parts are read from the drawing
Sheet layoutBy hand in Excel:In a separate program or by handmoducut:Nesting from the same project
CNC fileBy hand in Excel:Separate CAM drawingmoducut:G-code, DXF and CIX from the drawing
CostBy hand in Excel:Estimated in a separate sheetmoducut:Line by line from the parts
Labels and assemblyBy hand in Excel:None, or by handmoducut:Barcoded labels and assembly sheets

When is Excel enough?

If you do a few small jobs a month and have your cutting done elsewhere, a spreadsheet kept by hand can do the job.

When does moducut make a difference?

If you turn out kitchens every week, have a CNC, or want to quote from the real cost.

Frequently asked
questions

Yes. The cut list is exported to Excel (.xlsx) with one click; you can also save it as CSV or XML, or get a PDF from the print window. You work with your cutting service from the same file.

Partly. You can load a parts list from Excel (.xlsx or .csv) into the panel sizing (Ebatlama) area and produce a sheet layout, labels and CNC files; the list does not turn into a drawing, that is, into 3D modules. When you draw new jobs in moducut the list is created on its own.

Both. The 1-Year and Lifetime plans have every feature; the plans differ only in license length.
