# Saving and organizing projects

Last updated: October 25, 2026

A moducut project is the work in which the room, modules and production settings are kept together, saved as a file with the .mbz extension. This page explains saving a project, opening it on another computer and organizing projects on the start screen.

> **Short answer** **File › Save** on the ribbon (Ctrl + S) saves the project as an .mbz file, and **File › Load** opens a saved .mbz file. Open projects are also saved automatically.

## Autosave

Shortly after every change, moducut writes all open projects to the project store on your computer. When the program is closed and reopened, projects come back where you left them; you do not need to press Save. If the project was opened from an .mbz file, unsaved changes are written to that file too.

Autosave is a recovery safeguard. To back up a project, move it to another computer or keep it in your customer folder, save an .mbz file with Save.

## Saving and opening as an .mbz file

1. Press **Save** in the File group of the ribbon (Ctrl + S) and choose where to save the file.
2. To open a saved project, press **Load** and choose the .mbz file.
3. To open the project on another computer, move the .mbz file to that computer and open it with **Load**.
4. **My Projects** (Alt + P) goes back to the project list on the start screen; clicking a card opens the project.

You can also open a project by dragging and dropping the .mbz file onto the Upload file area in the new project box.

## Project info

**File › Info** (Alt + I) opens the Project Info window. Here you type the project name, customer name, phone, address and project note; the Summary section shows a short rundown of the project. If the project has no name when you export G-code, moducut asks for this information first, because the G-code folder is created with the project name.

## Organizing projects on the start screen

The Projects section has three tabs: Recently opened, Archive and Deleted. From a project’s menu you can:

- **Open project and Rename.** Opens the project or changes its name.
- **Archive.** Moves the project to the Archive tab; Unarchive brings it back.
- **Duplicate.** Creates a copy of the project; handy for starting a similar job from an old project.
- **Delete.** Moves the project to the Deleted tab. In Deleted, **Restore** brings the project back and **Delete permanently** removes it completely.

In the Folders section of the left menu you create new folders and drag projects into them. A project in a folder has **Remove from folder** in its menu; the folder’s own menu has rename and delete.

> **Tip:** To open a project in the Deleted tab, first right-click it and choose Restore.

## Saving settings and the diagnostic log to a file

**Export Settings** in the editor’s Settings menu saves General Settings to the moducut-ayarlar.json file; **Import Settings** applies that file on another computer. For support, the **Log** button on the ribbon (Alt + J) saves the diagnostic log to a file; you can send this file to us through our [contact](/en/contact/) channels. To bring the 3D drawing of the scene in the room into another program, use 3D DXF (Scene) in the Export menu.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where are my projects stored?

Open projects are saved automatically to the moducut project store on your computer; .mbz files you save with Save stay in the folder you choose. Your projects never leave your computer.

### Can I get a deleted project back?

Yes, as long as it is in the Deleted tab. Choose Restore from the project’s menu. If you chose Delete permanently, the project does not come back; if you have an .mbz backup, you can open it with Load.

### Can I keep a single module separately from the project?

Yes. Open the module in design mode and save it as a .cab file with File › Save on the design mode ribbon; you can open it in another project with Load.
