# Hanging rail and LED channel

Last updated: October 25, 2026

A hanging rail is the rail fitted between two sides of a wardrobe carcass for hanging clothes; an LED channel is a groove cut into a part for a lighting strip. In moducut, both are added from the Accessory group in module design mode.

> **Short answer** Open the module in design mode, press **Accessory › Hanging Rail** (Alt + U) or **LED Groove** on the ribbon, select the space in the 3D view, enter the settings in the panel and apply.

## Adding a hanging rail

1. Press **Hanging Rail** on the design mode ribbon.
2. Select the compartment (space) the rail goes into in the 3D view.
3. In the Placement section, enter the rail’s distance from the front and from the top; with **Center** on, the rail is centered in depth.
4. Choose the rail size in the Rail section.
5. In the Marking section, choose Single or Vertical pair for the holes cut into the side panels; for a pair, enter the Spacing between the two holes.
6. Apply. Fitted rails are listed at the top of the panel.

In corner modules, the L corner row lets you fit the rail to the Left arm or Right arm. The hanging rail and its holders go into the hardware list on their own.

## Cutting an LED channel

1. Press **LED Groove** on the ribbon and select the space in the 3D view.
2. In the Location section, choose which of the parts bounding that space the channel is cut into; the Channel length appears with the part’s name.
3. In the Channel section, enter Face, Parallel edge, Distance from edge, Width, Depth and Short from ends.
4. Press **Add LED Groove**. The part’s LED channels are listed at the bottom of the panel.

The LED channel is machined into the part; it carries over to the cut part as a groove, appears in nesting when laid out on the sheet, and goes into the G-code.

## LED effect

The **LED Effect** button on the view bar above the 3D scene shows the light strip and LED channels lit. It is used to show the customer lit shelves or the light strip under the crown. The Light strip type in the Crown tool adds a light strip part to the front of the carcass.

## Default settings

The Hanging Rail page in Settings › General Settings sets whether a new rail is centered in depth, its distance from the front and top, the rail height and thickness, the marking style (Single hole or Vertical pair of holes) and the hole spacing. The LED Groove page has the channel width, depth, distance from edge, face and parallel edge (Front edge or Back edge).

> **Tip:** You can also cut an LED channel into a shelf you cut as a single part: add an LED channel from the part’s Surface Operations in the Single Part workspace.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the hanging rail go into the cut list?

Because the rail is not cut from board, it appears in the hardware list, not the cut list; rail and holder counts are on separate rows.

### Which face is the LED channel cut into?

The face you choose on the Face row in the Channel section. The default face for new channels is chosen on the General Settings › LED Groove page as Face toward the space, Face A or Face B.

### How is an LED channel on face B machined?

For channels cut into face B, moducut prepares a separate back-side program; you save it from the Back-Side Programs section in Nesting Results.
