# Getting to know the screen

Last updated: October 25, 2026

The moducut interface consists of the start screen, where you manage projects, and the editor, where you draw; the editor has a menu and a six-group ribbon at the top and the plan and 3D view in the middle. This page explains what each area of the screen does.

> **Short answer** At the top of the editor are the menu (Home, Settings, Export, Production, Support) and the six-group ribbon (File, Edit, Modules, Room Design, View, Production). The scene in the middle holds the plan and 3D view; module settings are in the right-click menu and in design mode.

## Start screen

When the program opens, the start screen comes up. The left menu has **Projects**, **Tutorials** and **Settings**; your own **Folders** are listed below. The Projects section has the Recently opened, Archive and Deleted tabs, the **New Project** button and the Help Center card. The Help Center card opens the Tutorials section in the program. You can view projects as cards or as a list.

## Project tabs

The bar at the very top of the editor has the home button, the tabs of open projects and the + button. The home button goes back to the start screen; + opens a new project and the previous project stays open in its own tab. Each tab keeps its own undo history. A project with unsaved changes shows * at the end of its name; double-click the active tab’s name to rename the project.

## Top menu

The editor’s menu has Home, Settings, Export, Production and Support.

- **Settings.** General Settings, CNC Settings, Price List, Job Details, Consumption and Cost Prices, Connector Management and Hinge Management; plus exporting and importing settings. Drawer runner and handle records are on cards in General Settings.
- **Export.** 3D DXF (Scene): saves the scene in the room as a three-dimensional DXF file.
- **Production.** The Sizing and Production Line Setup windows.
- **Support.** Share Logs: saves the diagnostic log to a file.

## Ribbon

The ribbon below the menu is split into six groups. When you hover over a button, its description and shortcut, if any, appear.

- **File.** My Projects, New, Load, Save, Info, Log.
- **Edit.** Undo, Redo, Delete.
- **Modules.** Library, Draw Module, L Corner, 45° Corner, Single Part.
- **Room Design.** Room, Column, Beam, Notch, Crown, Worktop, Bulk.
- **View.** Magnet, Infinite page, Dimensions, Tape Measure, Door Gaps, X-Ray, Connectors, Doors.
- **Production.** Cut, Door, Hardware, Nesting, Sizing, Simulation.

When you switch to module design mode, the ribbon changes and design mode’s own groups appear; details are on the [Module design mode](/en/docs/modules/module-design-mode/) page.

## Plan and 3D view

From the view bar above the scene, choose 2D Plan Only, Both (2D + 3D) or 3D View Only. In the split view, drag the divider in the middle to change the ratio between the two sides.

1. Drag with the mouse to rotate the 3D view.
2. Drag while holding Shift to pan the view.
3. Zoom in or out with the mouse wheel.
4. Press H to focus on the selected module; Shift + 1 fits everything on screen.

The other buttons on the view bar are explained on the [View tools](/en/docs/interface/view-tools/) page.

## Right-click menus

When you right-click a module, part or column, that object’s menu opens. The module menu has commands such as Edit, Rename, Properties, Assembly Sheet, Height from Floor, 90° rotation, Copy, Send to Nesting and Delete module; details are on the [Placing modules](/en/docs/modules/placing-modules/) page. When you right-click a column, Edit position opens the Room Editing window on that column’s tab.

> **Tip:** The backslash key \ hides and shows the side panels; use it when you want a bigger drawing area.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why does a button on the ribbon look faded?

That command has nothing to do at that moment. For example, the Delete button stays inactive while no module is selected; it becomes active when you select a module.

### Is there a dark theme?

Yes. Switch between light and dark themes with the theme button at the right of the view bar. The theme can also be chosen under Settings › Appearance on the start screen.

### How do I get back to the start screen?

Press the home button on the top bar or My Projects on the ribbon (Alt + P). Your open projects stay in their tabs.
