# Door gaps and hinges

Last updated: October 25, 2026

The door gap is the space left between a door and the carcass edge, or between two doors; the hinge is the hardware that connects the door to the carcass, with its count set by door height. moducut calculates both from your settings and lets you change them per door.

> **Short answer** The default gaps are on the Settings › General Settings › Door page. Change a single door’s gap and extension by clicking the door in design mode and using the Front section of Part Properties. Hinge records are in Settings › Hinge Management.

## Default gaps

The Settings › General Settings › Door page has two groups:

- **Door Gap Settings.** Top Gap, Bottom Gap and Side Gaps.
- **Drawer Front Gap Settings.** The same three values for drawer fronts.

The default values are 2.5 mm at the top and sides and 0 at the bottom; values you entered by hand before are kept. These values are used to calculate the door size. To see the gaps on screen, turn on **View › Door Gaps** on the ribbon; the gaps between doors are shown with dimensions.

## Per-door settings

When you click a door in design mode, three groups appear in the Front section of Part Properties:

- **Door gap.** This carcass’s door gaps.
- **Per door.** A single door’s gaps; **Set all to the general gap** removes the per-door values.
- **Extend / shorten (this door).** Extends or shortens the door at one edge.

To apply the same extension to many modules, enter the Top, Bottom, Left and Right edge values in mm on the Door tab of Bulk Edit. The **Drawer fronts too** option applies the same value to drawer fronts; **Reset edges** sets the values to zero.

## Number of hinges

The Automatic Hinge Count table on the General Settings › Door page sets, step by step, how many hinges are fitted based on door height. Hinge counts are totaled on the Hinge Ø35 row of the hardware list, and hinge holes are machined into the door and the side panel. To see the holes in 3D, turn on **View › Connections** (Alt + C).

## Hinge Management

1. In the editor, open **Settings › Hinge Management**.
2. Select a hinge record from the list on the left, or add one with **New**; **Copy** duplicates an existing record, **Delete** removes it.
3. Edit the hinge dimensions and hole tables in the form in the middle; the Live Preview on the right shows the change right away.
4. In the **Default Hinge** section, choose the hinge assigned to doors and the top / bottom edge distance.
5. Press **Save**. **Close** discards an unsaved draft.

## When holes are outdated

If you change hinge or connector settings after nesting, the holes of parts already placed on sheets stay with the old settings. moducut shows this with a warning in Nesting Results and in the G-code window; **Redo nesting** lays the sheets out again with the current settings.

> **Tip:** To extend doors down to below the worktop, or shorten them a little above the plinth, use the Door tab of Bulk Edit instead of working door by door.

## Frequently asked questions
